Step-by-step instructions
Prepare the items
Put one complete item on each line. Keep information that belongs together on the same line so the shuffle treats it as one entry.
Choose the input settings
Use New line for a vertical list or Comma for a comma-separated list. Remove duplicates only when repeated entries should disappear.
Shuffle and keep the output
Select Randomize list. Read the new order from top to bottom, then copy or download the result before generating again.
Worked example
A short geography quiz uses self-contained question blocks. Each block includes an internal ID so the answer key can be matched after reordering.
One valid result is shown below. Your generated outcome will vary.
Example input
Q01: Capital of France? A Paris / B Rome Q02: Largest ocean? A Atlantic / B Pacific Q03: Brazil is in which continent? A Asia / B South America Q04: Which is an island? A Iceland / B Austria
Example result
1. Q04: Which is an island? A Iceland / B Austria 2. Q03: Brazil is in which continent? A Asia / B South America 3. Q02: Largest ocean? A Atlantic / B Pacific 4. Q01: Capital of France? A Paris / B Rome
The tool changes question order only. It does not change the internal order of answer choices or create a formatted document.
Keep question IDs attached to the answer key
Use stable labels such as Q01 and Q02 before shuffling. Rebuild the printed numbering afterward and check each answer against its original ID. Do not split a question stem and its choices across separate lines: the tool would treat them as independent items. For long multi-paragraph questions, shuffle their IDs and reorder the actual document manually.
Settings and limits to check
The example has 4 retained entries. The list randomizer rearranges the supplied entries; it does not choose a subset. Blank lines are ignored, leading and trailing spaces are trimmed, and every retained entry appears in the result. Duplicate removal is case-sensitive. You can enter up to 10,000 items. New generations are independent, so an item may land in its original position or the entire order may occasionally repeat.
Settings used in this example
Remove duplicate entries: Off
Keep a usable copy of the result
Use Copy to place the current result in your own notes, or Download to keep a text file. Keep the eligible input list with the result when you need to explain which entries took part. A new generation replaces the displayed result rather than adding to a saved history.
The tool runs in your browser and does not upload your input. Save the result before refreshing or leaving the page. If other people need to use the same outcome, share your saved copy rather than asking them to generate another independent result.
Frequently asked questions
Can the randomizer update my answer key?
No. Keep stable question IDs, then use the shuffled order to reorder questions and verify the key yourself.
Does randomizing guarantee a different position for every item?
No. A random shuffle can leave some items in place. The tool does not enforce a rule that every entry must move.
Can I save the randomized order?
Yes. Use Copy or Download while the result is displayed. The page does not keep a history, so save it before refreshing or generating again.
What should I check in the worked example?
The tool changes question order only. It does not change the internal order of answer choices or create a formatted document.
