How-to guide Presentation order

How to Randomize Presentation Order

Here’s how to randomize presentation order: enter each presenter or presenting group once and shuffle the speaking slots. Turn off time slots if only the order is needed.

Step-by-step instructions

  1. Enter each presenter once

List the people or groups that need a slot. Keep a presenting team on one line when it shares one slot.

  2. Choose order only or timed slots

Enable time slots if you need scheduled starts. Set the start time and one duration that includes speaking and transitions.

  3. Generate and publish the schedule

Select Set speaking order. Check the complete schedule and save it before sending it to presenters.

Worked example

Six presenters need an order for a short session. This example omits scheduled times.

One valid result is shown below. Your generated outcome will vary.

Example input

Group A
Group B
Group C
Group D
Group E
Group F

Example result

1. Group A
2. Group B
3. Group F
4. Group C
5. Group D
6. Group E

The output gives a sequence only. It does not assign session lengths or ensure every presenter is available at every position.

Keep one entry per presentation slot

A team presenting together belongs on one line rather than several lines that could receive different positions. Confirm the roster before drawing and decide how a late arrival will be handled. If some presenters have fixed availability, place those slots separately; the generator cannot enforce individual time windows. Save the announced order before generating another.

Settings and limits to check

The example has 6 retained entries. The tool shuffles presenters once and can assign equally spaced starts. It supports one shared duration from 1 to 240 minutes per person, not custom durations or inserted breaks. Times use a 24-hour clock; a schedule crossing midnight marks the later day. Time-slot values must still be valid when using order-only output.

Settings used in this example
Start time: 09:00
Minutes per slot: 10
Include time slots: Off
Remove duplicate entries: On

Keep a usable copy of the result

Use Copy to place the current result in your own notes, or Download to keep a text file. Keep the eligible input list with the result when you need to explain which entries took part. A new generation replaces the displayed result rather than adding to a saved history.

The tool runs in your browser and does not upload your input. Save the result before refreshing or leaving the page. If other people need to use the same outcome, share your saved copy rather than asking them to generate another independent result.

Frequently asked questions

Can I randomize group presentations as well as individual speakers?

Yes. Put each presenting group’s label on one line so it receives one slot.

Can each presenter have a different duration?

No. One duration applies to every slot. Adjust a copied schedule manually if the session needs unequal slots or breaks.

Can I get an order without times?

Yes. Turn off Include presentation time slots and generate the speaking order.

What should I check in the worked example?

The output gives a sequence only. It does not assign session lengths or ensure every presenter is available at every position.
