How-to guide Presentation order

How to Randomize a Talent Show Performance Order

Here’s how to randomize a talent show performance order: enter each act once and draw the performance sequence, provided the acts can appear in any of the available positions.

How to Randomize a Talent Show Performance Order

Six acts need an initial show order. The example uses act labels and omits times because performance lengths vary. Select Load example to populate the supplied list, or replace it with your own entries. Nothing is generated until you select Set speaking order.

Step-by-step instructions

  1. Enter each presenter once

List the people or groups that need a slot. Keep a presenting team on one line when it shares one slot.

  2. Choose order only or timed slots

Enable time slots if you need scheduled starts. Set the start time and one duration that includes speaking and transitions.

  3. Generate and publish the schedule

Select Set speaking order. Check the complete schedule and save it before sending it to presenters.

Worked example

Six acts need an initial show order. The example uses act labels and omits times because performance lengths vary.

One valid result is shown below. Your generated outcome will vary.

Example input

Acoustic duo
Dance group
Poetry reading
Magic act
Piano solo
Comedy set

Example result

1. Comedy set
2. Acoustic duo
3. Magic act
4. Poetry reading
5. Dance group
6. Piano solo

The random order includes every act. It does not allow time for setup, manage equipment changes, or keep a finale in a fixed place.

Separate production constraints from the unrestricted draw

If certain acts need the same equipment or a fixed position, arrange those constraints first. Randomize the flexible acts only and combine the result with the fixed plan. For equal-duration acts, timed slots can be useful, but the same duration applies to all entries. Review the saved show plan for practical transitions before publishing it.

Settings and limits to check

The example has 6 retained entries. The tool shuffles presenters once and can assign equally spaced starts. It supports one shared duration from 1 to 240 minutes per person, not custom durations or inserted breaks. Times use a 24-hour clock; a schedule crossing midnight marks the later day. Time-slot values must still be valid when using order-only output.

Settings used in this example
Start time: 09:00
Minutes per slot: 10
Include time slots: Off
Remove duplicate entries: On

Keep a usable copy of the result

Use Copy to place the current result in your own notes, or Download to keep a text file. Keep the eligible input list with the result when you need to explain which entries took part. A new generation replaces the displayed result rather than adding to a saved history.

The tool runs in your browser and does not upload your input. Save the result before refreshing or leaving the page. If other people need to use the same outcome, share your saved copy rather than asking them to generate another independent result.

Frequently asked questions

Can it optimize the order to reduce equipment changes?

No. It shuffles without production constraints. Review or plan equipment-dependent transitions separately.

Can each presenter have a different duration?

No. One duration applies to every slot. Adjust a copied schedule manually if the session needs unequal slots or breaks.

Can I get an order without times?

Yes. Turn off Include presentation time slots and generate the speaking order.

What should I check in the worked example?

The random order includes every act. It does not allow time for setup, manage equipment changes, or keep a finale in a fixed place.
