How-to guide Presentation order

How to Choose a Random Order for Student Presentations

Here’s how to choose a random order for student presentations: use one entry for each ready student or group and draw the order after confirming attendance.

How to Choose a Random Order for Student Presentations

Eight student groups will present in the same session. Each group gets one entry regardless of member count. Select Load example to populate the supplied list, or replace it with your own entries. Nothing is generated until you select Set speaking order.

Step-by-step instructions

  1. Enter each presenter once

List the people or groups that need a slot. Keep a presenting team on one line when it shares one slot.

  2. Choose order only or timed slots

Enable time slots if you need scheduled starts. Set the start time and one duration that includes speaking and transitions.

  3. Generate and publish the schedule

Select Set speaking order. Check the complete schedule and save it before sending it to presenters.

8. Group 3

The result orders presentations, not individual students inside a group. It does not check the availability of files or equipment.

Confirm readiness and the correction rule beforehand

A missing group or incorrect label is a real input error; disliking a slot is not the same problem. Tell students how genuine corrections and absences will be handled. If a class needs timed slots, use one duration that includes questions and transitions. The tool does not assign unequal durations or automatically extend the session when a presentation runs long.

Settings and limits to check

The example has 8 retained entries. The tool shuffles presenters once and can assign equally spaced starts. It supports one shared duration from 1 to 240 minutes per person, not custom durations or inserted breaks. Times use a 24-hour clock; a schedule crossing midnight marks the later day. Time-slot values must still be valid when using order-only output.

Settings used in this example
Start time: 09:00
Minutes per slot: 10
Include time slots: Off
Remove duplicate entries: On

Keep a usable copy of the result

Use Copy to place the current result in your own notes, or Download to keep a text file. Keep the eligible input list with the result when you need to explain which entries took part. A new generation replaces the displayed result rather than adding to a saved history.

The tool runs in your browser and does not upload your input. Save the result before refreshing or leaving the page. If other people need to use the same outcome, share your saved copy rather than asking them to generate another independent result.

Frequently asked questions

Should all members of a presenting group be entered separately?

No. Use a single group label when they share one presentation slot.

Can each presenter have a different duration?

No. One duration applies to every slot. Adjust a copied schedule manually if the session needs unequal slots or breaks.

Can I get an order without times?

Yes. Turn off Include presentation time slots and generate the speaking order.

What should I check in the worked example?

The result orders presentations, not individual students inside a group. It does not check the availability of files or equipment.
