How-to guide Time generator

How to Generate a List of Random Times

Here’s how to generate a list of random times: choose a same-day window and request a batch of independent times. Save the raw list before generating again.

How to Generate a List of Random Times

Ten minute-level times are sampled between 08:00 and 12:00. The settings below match the worked example. Change them to match your activity. Nothing is generated until you select Pick times.

Step-by-step instructions

  1. Set a same-day time window

Enter the earliest and latest eligible times using the 24-hour clock. The end cannot be before the start.

  2. Choose the number of picks

Set How many? from 1 to 100. Each selection is an independent minute within the window.

  3. Generate and save the times

Select Pick times. Copy the batch and attach a date or activity label separately if your plan needs one.

Worked example

Ten minute-level times are sampled between 08:00 and 12:00.

One valid result is shown below. Your generated outcome will vary.

Example settings

Start time: 08:00
End time: 12:00
How many: 10

Example result

1. 08:18
2. 08:30
3. 09:01
4. 11:58
5. 11:47
6. 08:35
7. 10:27
8. 10:25
9. 11:38
10. 11:53

The list may repeat times and is not sorted automatically. A later batch starts fresh rather than continuing an exclusion list.

Random times are not automatically usable appointments

If the task needs unique slots, a minimum gap, or chronological order, independent sampling alone does not enforce those rules. Use a prepared allowed-time list with a no-repeat picker for distinct values, or a scheduling method for spacing. Keep the original random order if the order of selection is part of an experiment.

Settings and limits to check

Time selection uses whole minutes and includes both endpoints. The tool does not enforce gaps, remove repeated times, generate seconds, or support a window crossing midnight. It is not a calendar or reminder service. A list of independent random times may be out of chronological order, so sort a saved copy separately if needed.

Start time: 08:00
End time: 12:00
How many: 10

Keep a usable copy of the result

Use Copy to place the current result in your own notes, or Download to keep a text file. Keep the range, count, or other settings with the result when they are needed to interpret it. A new generation replaces the displayed result rather than adding to a saved history.

The tool runs in your browser and does not upload your input. Save the result before refreshing or leaving the page. If other people need to use the same outcome, share your saved copy rather than asking them to generate another independent result.

Frequently asked questions

Can I require at least 15 minutes between the times?

No. The tool does not enforce spacing. Use a scheduling process or a prefiltered slot list for that requirement.

Can two generated times be identical?

Yes. Each pick is independent and previous times remain eligible.

Can I pick times across midnight?

Not in one generation. The end must be on or after the start within the same day.

What should I check in the worked example?

The list may repeat times and is not sorted automatically. A later batch starts fresh rather than continuing an exclusion list.
