How-to guide Number order

How to Randomize a List of Numbers

Here’s how to randomize a list of numbers: paste the exact numbers you already have and shuffle that supplied list. Use a range generator only if missing numbers should also be eligible.

How to Randomize a List of Numbers

Six nonconsecutive numeric labels need a new order. The gaps between those values are intentional. Select Load example to populate the supplied list, or replace it with your own entries. Nothing is generated until you select Shuffle numbers.

Step-by-step instructions

  1. Paste the existing numbers

Enter one number per line. Use the actual eligible numbers rather than generating a range that could include missing entries.

  2. Review separators and duplicates

Select the matching separator. Keep repeats when they represent real entries; remove them only if the number should occur once.

  3. Shuffle the supplied set

Select Shuffle numbers. Compare the input and output counts, then save the sequence before using it.

Worked example

Six nonconsecutive numeric labels need a new order. The gaps between those values are intentional.

One valid result is shown below. Your generated outcome will vary.

Example input

104
217
309
412
526
638

Example result

1. 104
2. 217
3. 412
4. 638
5. 526
6. 309

All six supplied values remain and none of the missing integers is added. The tool changes position rather than generating replacement numbers.

Preserve the meaning of numeric labels

A numeric label may be an ID, a task code, or a measured value. Keep its accompanying details in a separate reference keyed by that label. Do not paste a whole table and expect the tool to preserve multiple columns automatically. If a label contains letters or punctuation that is not numeric, use List Randomizer instead.

Settings and limits to check

The example has 6 retained entries. Number Order Generator accepts numeric entries and rearranges them without inventing new values. It supports up to 10,000 entries and keeps duplicates unless instructed to remove them. Numeric-looking identifiers are retained as supplied text, but alphanumeric labels belong in the general List Randomizer. Drawing only some numbers requires a picker rather than a full shuffle.

Remove duplicate entries: Off

Keep a usable copy of the result

Use Copy to place the current result in your own notes, or Download to keep a text file. Keep the eligible input list with the result when you need to explain which entries took part. A new generation replaces the displayed result rather than adding to a saved history.

The tool runs in your browser and does not upload your input. Save the result before refreshing or leaving the page. If other people need to use the same outcome, share your saved copy rather than asking them to generate another independent result.

Frequently asked questions

Can I shuffle decimal values?

Numeric entries can be shuffled as supplied, but this tool does not create new random decimals.

Will gaps in my numbers be filled?

No. Only the numbers you enter appear in the output. Missing ticket or task numbers remain absent.

Does this choose just one number?

No. It returns a full order. Use Random Number Generator for a range draw, or a name picker for a subset of supplied IDs.

What should I check in the worked example?

All six supplied values remain and none of the missing integers is added. The tool changes position rather than generating replacement numbers.
