Step-by-step instructions
Set the inclusive range
Enter the lowest and highest eligible whole numbers. Both endpoints can be selected.
Choose a count and repeat rule
Set How many?. Disable repeated numbers when every selected value should be unique within the batch.
Generate and record the values
Select Pick numbers and save the displayed values before starting another generation. Keep the settings with the result if they matter.
Worked example
A reader wants a writing prompt from pages 5 through 240 of a book. Those bounds exclude front matter and end pages that are not part of the exercise.
One valid result is shown below. Your generated outcome will vary.
Example settings
Minimum: 5 Maximum: 240 How many: 1 Allow repeated numbers: Off
Example result
1. 46
The selected number identifies a page; it does not pick a sentence, check the page’s content, or open the book.
Exclude unsuitable pages before defining the pool
A continuous range includes blank pages, illustrations, or restricted sections inside it. If only certain pages are eligible, list those page numbers and use a list picker instead. Confirm that an electronic viewer’s page index matches the book’s printed page number before looking up the result.
Settings and limits to check
The picker returns integers, not decimals. Bounds must be whole numbers between −1,000,000,000 and 1,000,000,000, with the maximum at least the minimum. A batch can contain 1–100 values. Without repeats, the range must contain enough distinct values for the count. Separate batches can overlap because no history is kept.
Settings used in this example
Minimum: 5 Maximum: 240 How many: 1 Allow repeated numbers: Off
Keep a usable copy of the result
Use Copy to place the current result in your own notes, or Download to keep a text file. Keep the range, count, or other settings with the result when they are needed to interpret it. A new generation replaces the displayed result rather than adding to a saved history.
The tool runs in your browser and does not upload your input. Save the result before refreshing or leaving the page. If other people need to use the same outcome, share your saved copy rather than asking them to generate another independent result.
Frequently asked questions
Can I guarantee the chosen page contains text?
Not with a continuous range unless every page in it is suitable. Use a prepared allowed-page list for exclusions.
Are both ends of the range eligible?
Yes. A range of 1 through 10 includes both 1 and 10, giving 10 eligible integers.
Can the same result appear in another batch?
Yes. Repeat prevention applies within the current batch, not across earlier generations.
What should I check in the worked example?
The selected number identifies a page; it does not pick a sentence, check the page’s content, or open the book.
