Step-by-step instructions

  1. Confirm the complete manager list.

Include one entry for each team, including the commissioner’s team. Use unique team names or add an initial where two managers share a name. Check the item count against your league size before generating.

  2. Choose one round or a full snake draft.

For first-round positions only, set Draft rounds to 1. To show later picks, enter the number of rounds your league uses and leave Snake draft enabled. Turn it off only if your format repeats the first-round order every round.

  3. Agree on the draw before running it.

Tell the league when the draw will happen and what would justify correcting it, such as a missing manager. Screen sharing can let everyone watch the same generation. Agree that disliking a position is not a reason to redraw.

  4. Generate once, then save the result.

Select Generate draft and check that every team appears once in each round. Use Copy or Download to keep the result, then share that saved order. A new generation creates a new draw and replaces the displayed result.

  5. Apply the order in your league.

Enter the saved positions in your league platform if its settings allow a custom order. This tool generates the list; it does not update your fantasy account or assign players to rosters.

Example: how a random order becomes a snake draft

Suppose a four-team draw produces Alex, Morgan, Jamie, Taylor. That is the first-round order. A snake draft reverses the same list in round two and returns to the original list in round three. It does not draw a fresh order for every round.

One possible four-team draft across three rounds
Pick within roundRound 1Round 2Round 3
1AlexTaylorAlex
2MorganJamieMorgan
3JamieMorganJamie
4TaylorAlexTaylor

Across the entire draft, Alex has overall picks 1, 8, and 9. Taylor has picks 4, 5, and 12. The numbers down the left of each generated round show the position within that round, not the overall pick number.

For a 12-team league, the manager who draws first picks 1st in round one and 12th in round two: overall picks 1 and 24. The manager who draws 12th picks again at overall pick 13. This back-and-forth format also appears in ESPN’s explanation of snake drafts.

Using the generator for 8, 10, or 12 teams

The workflow stays the same for different league sizes: paste the actual team list and verify the count. There is no separate league-size setting because the number of entries determines the number of picks per round. A 10-team list produces 10 picks in every generated round.

For a 12-team, 15-round draft, enter 12 unique team names and set Draft rounds to 15. The output contains 180 picks in 15 round sections. The generator supports up to 30 rounds, with a maximum of 10,000 picks in total.

If you are announcing positions weeks before the draft, one round is often easier to share. Generate more rounds only when you need the pick-by-pick schedule. Save whichever result you announce, since the page does not keep a draw history.

Give every manager one entry and keep the announced draw

The draft tool shuffles entries using a Fisher–Yates shuffle driven by your browser’s random-number source. Each unique entry has the same chance of occupying any first-round position. With 12 entries, that means a 1-in-12 chance of drawing first.

That equal chance depends on the input. Entering the same manager twice gives that manager two positions in the list. Remove duplicates can catch identical text, but it cannot know that “Alex” and “Alex Smith” are the same person. Review the names yourself.

Random positions also do not make every position equally valuable. Player values, scoring rules, keeper arrangements, and draft strategy can affect which slots managers prefer. The draw settles who receives each available position; it does not rank the positions or promise equal roster strength.

For a clear record, decide in advance how you will handle a genuine input mistake. Keep the incorrect result and the correction together if a redraw is necessary. A shared screen or saved text file helps explain what happened, but this site does not provide a certified or tamper-proof draw record.

Standard drafts, keeper leagues, and special pick rules

Leave Snake draft enabled when alternate rounds should reverse. Disable it for a standard repeating order: a manager in position three then picks third in every round. These are different formats, so confirm the league’s rule before drawing.

The generator does not apply traded picks, keeper penalties, lottery weights, or third-round reversal rules. If your league uses those, treat the random result as the initial position assignment and apply the additional rules separately. Avoid publishing the generated round list as a complete schedule until those changes are accounted for.

If your task is choosing teams for a game rather than ordering managers’ picks, use the Random Team Generator. For a casual order with no draft rounds, the name order tool is a simpler option.

Save and share the final draft order

Use Copy to paste the result into your league chat, or Download to save a text file. Keep round headings when sharing several rounds so nobody confuses the first pick of round two with the first pick of the draft.

Include the league name, draw date, and agreed format in your message. For example: “Sunday League: final 12-team snake order, three rounds shown. Round one determines our starting slots.” Add the saved result underneath.

Do this before refreshing or leaving the page. The tool processes names in your browser and does not upload them or save a history. Reopening the page will not recover the order you announced.

Frequently asked questions

Can I randomize a 12-team fantasy football draft order?

Yes. Enter 12 unique team or manager names, then generate the draft. Use one round for starting positions or choose more rounds to show the snake picking order.

Does a snake draft randomize every round?

No. The initial list is shuffled once. Odd-numbered rounds use that order, and even-numbered rounds reverse it. Generating a new order for each round would create a different format.

Can managers get the same draft position twice?

A single round assigns one position to each entry. In a standard snake draft, managers return to their original within-round position in odd rounds and the reversed position in even rounds. Separate draws can produce the same starting position again by chance.

Will this change my draft order in a fantasy football app?

No. It produces an order to copy or download. You must apply that order in your league platform, if custom draft positions are supported there.
