How-to guide Letter generator

How to Generate Random Letters

Here’s how to generate random letters: choose how many English letters you need, select uppercase or lowercase, and generate the batch.

How to Generate Random Letters

Five uppercase letters form a simple starting dataset for a word activity. The settings below match the worked example. Change them to match your activity. Nothing is generated until you select Generate letters.

Step-by-step instructions

  1. Choose the letter count

Use one for a starting letter or increase How many? for a batch of up to 100 letters.

  2. Choose the case

Select uppercase or lowercase. Both settings use the same 26 letters of the English alphabet.

  3. Generate and apply your game rule

Select Generate letters. Check any excluded-letter or repeated-letter rule your activity needs before accepting a round.

Worked example

Five uppercase letters form a simple starting dataset for a word activity.

One valid result is shown below. Your generated outcome will vary.

Example settings

How many: 5
Letter case: upper

Example result

1. Q
2. T
3. L
4. E
5. K

Each output is one letter from A–Z. Duplicate letters are valid because the tool samples independently.

A letter list is not a word generator

The output does not form pronounceable words, guarantee vowels, or follow a language’s spelling patterns. For an activity that needs a fixed allowed alphabet, list the allowed letters explicitly and shuffle or pick from that list. If you need a full unique alphabet order, use List Randomizer rather than hoping a random letter batch has no repeats.

Settings and limits to check

Letters are sampled from A–Z, with repeats allowed. The tool does not exclude particular letters, form pronounceable words, or enforce a unique-letter alphabet. A generated batch is a list of individual letters, not a password or a promised word. If you need every chosen letter once, enter an allowed alphabet in List Randomizer.

Keep a usable copy of the result

Use Copy to place the current result in your own notes, or Download to keep a text file. Keep the range, count, or other settings with the result when they are needed to interpret it. A new generation replaces the displayed result rather than adding to a saved history.

The tool runs in your browser and does not upload your input. Save the result before refreshing or leaving the page. If other people need to use the same outcome, share your saved copy rather than asking them to generate another independent result.

Frequently asked questions

Can the generator return accented letters?

It uses the 26-letter English alphabet, not accented characters or other writing systems.

Can letters repeat in one batch?

Yes. Each selection is independent and letters are not removed after being chosen.

Can I exclude letters?

Not in the letter generator. Paste your allowed letters into List Randomizer for a custom set.

What should I check in the worked example?

Each output is one letter from A–Z. Duplicate letters are valid because the tool samples independently.
